Organic self care tips.

Many of the personal care products that we use are full of poisons. Yes, poisons plural. It can be really overwhelming at first. And yes, it does seem like everything is killing us, even our soap so why change anything? I recommend changing things one thing at a time and slowly switching over to being more organic and less toxic. If you want to learn more about personal care products than my simple common sense tips, I would recommend browsing around at www.ewg.org. I love this website.

Perfume is like extremely toxic. Dr. Mercola has an article online called “Is your Perfume Poison” that I highly recommend for you perfume lovers. There is an organization called the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics that worked with EWG on a study and found a total of 38 chemicals not listed on the labels in 17 name-brand fragrances like Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Bath & Body Works, Old Spice, Calvin Klein, and more. What is even worse,  the labels are not accurate and the average fragrance product contained 14 chemicals that were not disclosed on the label (along with another 15 that were listed!). The report noted:

“Among them are chemicals associated with hormone disruption and allergic reactions, and many substances that have not been assessed for safety in personal care products.

Also in the ranks of undisclosed ingredients are chemicals with troubling hazardous properties or with a propensity to accumulate in human tissues. These include diethyl phthalate, a chemical found in 97 percent of Americans and linked to sperm damage in human epidemiological studies, and musk ketone, a synthetic fragrance ingredient that concentrates in human fat tissue and breast milk.”

Organic tip: Skip perfume. You are polluting my air and causing your kids to have things like asthma and allergies. Not to mention the fact that perfume messes up your hormones. I don’t know about you but I really don’t want any more hormone disturbances than I naturally already have plus I would really like to skip Breast cancer and thyroid issues.

Use organic skin care products. What you put on your skin absorbs into your blood stream. It is worth it by far to spend more on good quality products than deal with the skincare and health issues later. Sun screen is one of the worse skincare products out there. Some researchers are relating skin cancer more to the toxins in the lotions than the actual sun. There are different levels of organic skincare lines though so make sure you research the brand and don’t just trust it. I love the brands Jes Organic and Eminence.
